Between a rock and a hard place

Faced with the tough decision of having to choose between conflicting deadlines - both equally important - the CompSol Supervisor Team did what comes naturally.

They did both!

Group Operations Manager Beverley Bestbier explains:
"We needed to complete the annual performance reviews of about 350 staff members. Managing performance effectively is a cornerstone of our business as it impacts directly on our service levels to our clients. Despite this huge HR task, there never was any thought of missing a beat on meeting our client's injured on duty payment deadlines. CLIENT FIRST, NO MATTER WHAT."

Our supervisors decided to prepare for the performance appraisals after hours in our effort to meet both deadlines "This year the Supervisor team saw this as a positive challenge. In fact, it was a pleasure to prepare for the appraisals of their team members who had worked so hard over the months to meet our clients' deadlines."

"The next day, after preparing till late at night, it was quite a sight to see groups of people engaged in one:one performance discussions taking place all over the building," Beverley adds.

The "me-file" system, created to improve the process, also proved its worth. Staff members submit information to their "me-file" that they'd like considered in their evaluation. This includes personal endorsements, letters of appreciation from clients or improvements implemented that they'd like acknowledged.

On Wednesday, 6 November all the supervisors were treated with cupcakes to thank them for their positive attitudes and commitment to get things done, no matter what!
